Pelton Shepherd opened the facility in the suburb of Chicago, IL in 2019 to support the exploding demand from the delivered Food and Pharmaceuticals in the region. Tim Burgess, Production Manager, tells us about the journey building world-class operations.

What have been the major improvements you and your team have enabled in our Illinois facility?

During the pandemic, many of our materials costs went up. To reduce the effect of inflation on our customers, we studied the best options to consume less gelling agent in our recipes while keeping the high leak-resistance of our packs. We implemented a 100% filtration of our input water which not only helps with the precision of our processes but more importantly helps Pelton Shepherd stay competitive despite material cost fluctuations.

Another massive project was the development, installation, and commissioning of a high-capacity automated pallet freezer to improve the responsiveness and lead time of our frozen program services.

The next years will be all about supporting new sustainable products while bringing new manufacturing technologies and processes to reduce unnecessary operational costs while maintaining and improving high quality.
